Debbie Smith, M.Ed., LCPC
Debbie earned her counseling degree from Loyola University in 2002. She has clinical experience working in the behavioral health field in McHenry County for the past 18 years as a therapist and supervisor. She has spent her career working with adults and teens. Debbie specializes in the treatment of adults with emotional dysregulation that have engaged in high-risk behaviors including, suicidal thoughts and behaviors, aggression, self-injury, substance abuse, and poor decision making. Debbie treats adolescents (12 and over) and adults and works with individuals, groups, and families. Debbie’s primary therapeutic technique is Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Other techniques include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Crisis Intervention, and Matrix Model for addiction treatment. Areas of expertise include personality disorders, mood and anxiety disorders, family and relationship conflicts, stress management, and self esteem. Debbie also leads a DBT consultation group for behavioral health professionals.
