Meet Dr. William McMiller, MD
Dr. McMiller, or "Dr. Bill" as he has come to be called, is joining us having a long career in university, public and private clinical practice. Initially trained as a pediatrician, Dr. Bill has practiced for more than three decades as a Child and Adolescent psychiatrist and a public health consultant. He has studied and advanced the study of several interrelated fields at several major centers including: medical anthropology and complimentary medicine (University of Wisconsin Madison); translational biophysics (University of Chicago Argonne National Labs, Lemont); transcultural psychiatry (University of Illinois and Morgan State University); and, educational curriculum design and psychoneurorehabilitation (California Polytech University and University of California at Los Angeles). Dr. Bill has published in multiple venues on subjects relevant to advancing human potential regardless of mental challenges acquired or inherited. He is well-regarded amongst government agencies, youth service organizations, and school communities and is considered a forensic psychiatric expert in several Chicago area County Circuit Courts.
Dr. Bill is a fervent advocate of preventing mental illness or lessening its burden by officially advising a range of agencies from the Chicago City Council to the National Institutes of Mental Health. Areas of interest he has published and presented in include reducing stigma as a barrier to mental health services, lead neurotoxicity, family structure effects on exacting transgenerational support, and special-education advocacy. He has also been known for personal community service efforts including parent teaching for Lake County special-education families, hosting Caretaker Grandparent Appreciation "High Tea" events in suburban Cook County and mentoring faith-based youth service projects in DuPage County.
Dr. Bill likes to practice what he teaches about "balancing life" by relaxing himself with theater-going, educational-toy tinkering, and teaching his grandchildren the basics of tai chi.
Dr. Bill sees patients in-person in our Schaumburg office and via telehealth upon request. To make an appointment, please contact our front office at 847-221-5622.
