Our staff is comprised highly qualified and dedicated clinicians with a wealth of experience in a variety of treatment techniques. Each specializes in the treatment of children and adolescents. We are proud to offer group therapy options for adolescents and adults at our offices in Schaumburg and Lake in the Hills and, during times of social distancing, virtually using Zoom whenever possible, which is HIPAA-compliant. To ensure our clients' safety, we also ensure the following for our in-person group meetings:
- masks will be worn in accordance with IDPH and CDC guidelines
- a minimum of 3ft. of social distancing will be maintained
- no eating will be allowed during group sessions unless it is part of the therapy work
- labeled water bottles from home are allowed
Weekly Virtual Hangout for Tweens and Teens
Relaunching Fall 2021
Is your tween/young teen struggling during these unusual times? Do they miss their friends? Bored? Irritable? Encourage them to join BZA Therapist Amanda Winter, LCSW for this weekly group. Evening meetings are 60 minutes during which time we discuss tough feelings and learn coping skills. Half of our time will be spent processing emotions as a group and half will be reserved for games, trivia, and other quarantine-fun activities. Group therapy, even virtual, is covered by most major insurance plans.
DBT Skills Group for Teens
**ongoing enrollment, meets virtually Mondays from 5:00-6:00pm **
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a specific, evidence-based type of therapy that uses a skill-building curriculum to encourage participants to manage their emotions by practicing mindfulness, distress tolerance, and emotional regulation, as well as the development of positive interpersonal relationships. It is a long-term process that has been proven to address many of the common challenges typically addressed in therapy, including anxiety, depression, self-harm, ADHD, disordered eating, risky behavior, and past substance abuse. This DBT skills group will teach teens how to take control of how they feel and find better ways to cope with stress. Each week, therapist Debbie Smith, M.Ed., LCPC, will teach a new skill that group members are then asked to practice in the week ahead. In order for these skills to benefit the participants, it is recommended that they also be involved in individual therapy. The individual therapy can be provided by your current therapist or a BZA therapist. This DBT skills group will educate participants about the skills needed for long term wellness in their lives. In order for these skills to benefit the participants, it is recommended that they also be involved in individual therapy. The individual therapy can be provided by your current therapist or a BZA therapist. This group is scheduled to meet every week for 60-90 minutes per session. Each week, the group leader, therapist Debbie Smith, M.Ed., LCPC, will review a new skill participants are then asked to utilize in the week ahead. Each week, participants will be keeping a log that will help them implement the skills into their daily lives. Bereavement Group: Grief Group Therapy
**meets virtually the 4th Saturday of each month**
We are pleased to offer grief counseling for individuals under the age of 65 who have experienced the loss of a loved one. This open format group, hosted by BZA therapist Gerry Wetzel, LCPC, meets every other week and offers a supportive space for participants to grieve openly and receive emotional support from others who have experienced a similar loss. Psychoeducation about self-care and the grief process will also be discussed. Additional Info Here
Family Support for Aging Adults Group - Start Date TBD
Life is about balance. It is difficult to remember that when you are the anchor for your aging parents and your growing children. If you are caring for your kids and parents and hold the responsibilities for their functioning and wellbeing, then chances are there is little time to care for yourself. We can help to support your needs and teach you ways to integrate taking care of your awesome responsibilities and taking care of your awesome self.
BZA therapist Jennifer Menegon has worked with all different cognitive levels of the aging population. She has also worked with their family members with understanding and compassion for many years. Jenny has seen the changes in healthcare and mental health and how challenging it is to manage the lives of aging parents all the while trying to make the best decisions for one's self, children, and family.
This role is one you cannot prepare for. It is a great challenge and can be downright exhausting at times. Come to our 7-week group to learn with others that are facing these issues. We will help process your experience, offer some psycho education and come up with ways to find self care and mindfulness in the midst of our busy lives. CBT-Insomnia Group Therapy - Start Date TBD
This new and exciting group, hosted by BZA therapist Gerry Wetzel, aims to resolve insomnia holistically, using a combination of behavioral interventions like sleep restriction and stimulus control and education about good sleep habits. Parenting Tools Workshop - One night, date TBD
Do you have pre-teens or teenagers that act disrespectful towards authority? How about kids struggling with school and motivation despite their potential? Overuse of technology? You name it and there's one successful parenting program that can nip many of these and other parenting problems in the bud!
This one night workshop introduction will introduce you to the parenting tools and tricks developed by Psychologist, Dr. Matthew Johnson in his program and book entitled "Positive Parenting with a Plan". Group/Individual Clinical Supervision & Consultation
BZA is proud to offer clinical supervision and consultation (individual and group formats) for counselors, therapists and school clinicians who could benefit from a collaborative discussion of challenging cases and best practices from our team of highly trained and experienced professionals. The open-attendance group format will include 3-4 fellow mental health professionals from varying backgrounds from whom you can gain insights, both clinical and business. For those working towards licensure, (LCSW/LCPC) you can also gain hours to sit for your clinical examination. Hone your skills and grow as a practitioner by learning new techniques and coping skills used by BZA's therapists. BZA believes in life-long learning and our therapists' broad range of interests and expertise will help increase your effectiveness as a practitioner and give you the confidence to grow in your practice.
